🛡️ Safety, Safeguarding & Supervision

Are your coaches qualified and DBS checked?
Yes. All Peak Performance Sports coaches are experienced, professional, and fully DBS checked. Our team complete the NSPCC Safeguarding in Sport Course and are either Advanced Paediatric First Aid Trained or FA First Aid Qualified and are carefully selected for their ability to work confidently and positively with children.

What happens if my child is injured or there’s an accident?
We have a robust First Aid Policy in place. Each venue has at least one dedicated Advanced Paediatric First Aider. Minor injuries are treated immediately, and in the event of a more serious accident, parents or guardians are contacted immediately.
All incidents are documented in our First Aid log.

All activities are risk-assessed and delivered by qualified, experienced coaches to prioritise your child’s safety.

Do you have safeguarding and risk assessment policies?
Yes. Child safety is our highest priority.
We operate under robust safeguarding, behaviour management, uncollected, first aid, risk assessment and many more policies, all transparent, on our 2026 Policies & Procedures dedicated page.

Staff are all Enhanced DBS Checked, Advanced Paediatric Trained or FA First Aid Trained and all attend the NSPCC Safeguarding In Sport Training or FA Safeguarding Course.

We have a robust behaviour policy in place that all staff are introduced to during their staff induction.

What is your coach-to-child ratio?

5-8 Year Olds 1:14
8-14 Year Olds 1:16

We operate safe and appropriate coach-to-child ratios at all times to ensure children are well supervised, supported, and engaged throughout the day. Children are grouped by their age and ability throughout the whole day.

If your child is attending with a friend, they will usually be able to stay together throughout the day. Group requests can be made at the time of booking or by speaking to a staff member on arrival.

How does PPS manage behaviour at camp?

At PPS we encourage a positive, inclusive and respectful environment for all children. Our coaches set clear expectations at the start of each day and promote teamwork, sportsmanship and good behaviour during activities.

If a child’s behaviour becomes disruptive or unsafe, our team will address the situation calmly and supportively. In more serious or repeated cases, parents may be contacted and further action taken in line with our Behaviour Policy.

Here, you can read our full Behaviour Management Policy.

Does Peak Performance Sports Ltd have adequate Insurance?

Yes.

Public Liability Insurance
Peak Performance Sports Ltd carries comprehensive Public Liability Insurance to provide reassurance and protection for all our organised activities, including holiday camps, sports sessions, birthday parties, and other programmes.

We are insured through Protectivity Insurance (Protectivity is a trading name of Starpeak Insurance Solutions Ltd). Our policy (Policy Number: 444900329999) covers our business operations in the United Kingdom, including the provision of holiday camps, sports birthday parties, sport camps, and before/after school sessions across a range of activities. The Limit of Indemnity for Public Liability is £5,000,000 for any one occurrence. The current policy is valid from 26 January 2026 to 25 January 2027 inclusive.

This insurance provides cover for legal liability and related costs arising from accidental injury to third parties (including participants and members of the public) or damage to third‑party property caused by our activities, subject to the full terms, limits, and exclusions of the policy. The full insurance schedule and policy documents are available on request.

Employer’s Liability Insurance
In addition to public liability cover, we also maintain Employer’s Liability Insurance as required by UK law, providing protection in the unlikely event of claims related to our staff while they are carrying out duties on behalf of the company.

Although we carry this business insurance to protect participants and third parties, parents and guardians are also encouraged to consider adequate personal insurance cover as appropriate.

What venue-specific safeguarding measures are in place?

The safety and supervision of children is our highest priority. At every Peak Performance Sports venue, we implement clear procedures to ensure children are safely supervised throughout the day.

Some of the measures in place include:

First Aid and medical access

Each group has a dedicated “grab bag” that moves with them around the venue. This contains:

• A fully stocked first aid kit
• Instant ice packs
• Sick bowls
• First aid reporting log
• A mobile phone for communication

These bags are stored at the main first aid table and travel with each group throughout the day so staff can respond quickly if needed. Any essential medication (such as inhalers) also stays with the child’s group, so it is always accessible.

Supervision and child registers

The Camp Manager holds a master register for all children on site. When groups split for activities, each coach is given a group register, including any relevant medical information.

To ensure children are always accounted for:

• A morning register is taken on arrival
• An afternoon register is completed
• Regular headcounts are carried out by two staff members

This ensures all children are safely supervised during activities and transitions around the venue.

Fire evacuation procedure

Each venue has a designated fire evacuation meeting point, which is clearly communicated to staff and children at the start of the day.

For this venue the meeting point is:

Outside the Mini Sports Cage

These procedures are part of our wider safeguarding, first aid and risk assessment policies used across all Peak Performance Sports camps. View our dedicated Policies and Procedures page for further information.

Are your sports camps suitable for beginners or less sporty children?

Absolutely. PPS camps are designed for children of all ability levels, from those who love sport to those who simply enjoy being active, trying new things, and having fun.

We know that joining a new environment can sometimes feel daunting for children. That’s why creating a welcoming, supportive atmosphere is one of our biggest priorities. Our experienced team are experts at helping children settle in, build confidence, and feel comfortable participating at their own pace.

Many children who attend PPS are trying new sports for the first time, and our sessions are designed so every child can feel included, supported, and successful.

We also have PPS Junior Leaders — older children who have attended PPS camps for three or more years — who help welcome new children and make them feel part of the group.

How we help new children settle in

When a child joins us for the first time, we take extra care to help them settle in. This includes:

  • A short tour of the facilities

  • A friendly introduction to the PPS coaching team

  • Helping them make a new friend

  • Taking time to get to know them as an individual

Reassurance for parents

We understand that parents want to know their child is happy and settled. After the session begins, we send a pre-arranged text or WhatsApp message to let you know that your child has settled in and is enjoying their time.

Families are also welcome to arrive a little earlier to meet our team, ask questions about PPS, and help their child feel comfortable before the session starts.

Why do children enjoy PPS camps so much?

Many children come to PPS camps to:

  • Try new sports

  • Build confidence

  • Make new friends

  • Stay active during the school holidays

For many families, PPS becomes a place where children grow in confidence, develop friendships, and look forward to coming back every holiday.

Many children attend PPS camps to:

• Try new sports
• Build confidence
• Make new friends
• Stay active during the school holidays.

We are attending for the first time, how will you support our child?

We understand that trying a new activity or camp can feel daunting — for both children and parents. That’s why at Peak Performance Sports, we go the extra mile to make your child feel safe, confident, and included from day one.

Here’s how we support new families:

  • Pre-visit welcome: Come meet our team, ask questions, and see our facilities before your child’s first session.

  • Guided settling: Mini tours, introductions, and structured support help your child feel at ease.

  • Peer support: PPS Junior Leaders — children who have attended for 3+ years — help new children settle and make friends.

  • Personalised updates: We keep you informed via text or WhatsApp so you know your child is happy and engaged.

Our promise: Every child is treated as an individual. We focus on building confidence, encouraging participation, and helping children feel part of the right group. You can relax knowing they’re in safe, caring hands.

What does a typical day at camp look like?
Each day includes:
• Structured sports sessions
• Team games
• Regular breaks for fresh fruit provided by PPS
• Lunch and rest time
• Calm end-of-day activities

What happens if it rains?

PPS camps run in all weather conditions. Because we hire the entire ALNS site, we can easily move activities indoors or outdoors depending on conditions.

ALNS Portsmouth venue includes:

• Large 4-court sports hall
• Acres of outdoor playing fields
• Outdoor MUGA
• Astro / 4G pitches

This allows our programmes to stay active, structured and safe, ensuring children continue enjoying a full day of activities.

In the rare event of extreme weather (such as snow or flooding) preventing camps from running, we will contact all booked families as soon as possible to keep you updated on the plan.

How Does PPS Drop-Off and Collection Work?

Where to arrive and collect

To drop off your child at PPS Camps at Admiral Lord Nelson School (ALNS):

  1. Arrive at Admiral Lord Nelson School, Dundas Lane, Portsmouth, PO3 5XT.

  2. Park in the main school car park at the front of the school.

  3. Walk around the front of the building towards the Sports Hall, following the PPS Camp signs.

  4. You will be greeted by our Camp Manager at the sign-in desk located inside the Sports Hall.

Our team will always be present to welcome families and guide you through the process.

How sign-in works

Regular families

Families who attend regularly will be familiar with our safe and friendly sign-in process.

You will be welcomed by the Camp Manager, who will:

• sign your child in
• check how they are that morning
• confirm that booking and contact information is up to date

This is also a good opportunity to ask any quick questions before the day begins.

First-time families

We understand that attending a new camp can feel daunting for both children and parents.

Our Camp Manager will welcome you and ensure everything is set up correctly before your child joins the activities.

During sign-in we will:

• confirm your booking details and emergency contact information
• ensure you have the Camp Manager’s contact number
• introduce your child to the coaching team and their group

New children will also receive a short tour of the facilities and will be introduced to children of a similar age to help them settle in comfortably.

Parents of first-time attendees will receive a lunchtime update text from the Camp Manager to let you know how your child’s first day is going and what activities they have enjoyed.

How children are released safely

PPS takes safeguarding very seriously and operates a strict sign-out procedure.

  1. Only adults listed as authorised collectors on the booking form can collect a child.

  2. If another family member or friend needs to collect your child, you must inform the Camp Manager in advance.

  3. A child will not be released unless the collecting adult has been authorised by the parent or guardian who made the booking.

At collection time:

• the child is signed out by a member of staff
• coaches check that all belongings are collected
• parents can speak with the team about their child’s day

Our team also enjoys hearing from children about their favourite activities so we can share highlights of the day with parents.

Children remain under the supervision of the PPS coaching team at all times while on site and are only released once signed out by an authorised adult.

Our goal

Peak Performance Sports aims to make drop-off and collection smooth, safe and welcoming for all families.

If there is anything important we should know about your child for the day ahead, please feel free to speak with the Camp Manager during sign-in.

What if I am running late for drop-off?

If you are running late for drop-off, please contact the PPS team as soon as possible so we know your child will be arriving after the scheduled start time. Our team will ensure your child is welcomed and safely integrated into the group activities when they arrive.

Please note that late arrivals may miss the start of the day’s activities or briefing.

Yes. Many children who attend PPS camps are initially a little nervous, especially if it is their first time attending.

Our coaching team are experienced in helping children settle in quickly and feel part of the group. Activities are designed to encourage teamwork, confidence and enjoyment rather than competition, allowing every child to participate at their own pace.

It is very common for children to arrive feeling unsure and leave the day excited and proud of their achievements.

What happens if my child does not enjoy an activity?

Our camps include a wide range of activities throughout the day so children always have something to enjoy.

If a child is unsure about a particular activity, our coaches will encourage them to try at their own pace or offer alternative ways to participate. The focus of our programme is on building confidence, teamwork and enjoyment, rather than forcing children to take part in something they are uncomfortable with.

What happens if my child wants to attend multiple days?

Children are very welcome to attend multiple days or full weeks of camp.

Each day includes a variety of different activities and challenges, ensuring children remain engaged and excited to return. Many families choose to book several days during school holidays so children can continue developing skills and friendships.

Our camps are designed to offer much more than just sports activities.
